It's all about the experience

Pungwe is a small, intimate and authentic safari camp which evokes the essence of a true safari experience. With just four comfortable en-suite Meru-style tents reminiscent of the days when safaris were all about the sights, sounds and smells of wild Africa, our camp is about the bush, the wild fauna and flora, the stories of the wilderness and the subsequent regaling of these by our iconic campfire.

Our ethos is that of a slow safari, where guests can recalibrate and indulge in the rare luxury of a digital detox, without wifi. Perfect for privately guided small groups with special interests like birding, photography and astronomy, Pungwe offers an immersive experience par excellence.

At Pungwe, our safaris are designed to put you in touch with the wilderness around you and immerse you in your surroundings. Our guided morning game drives and bush walks give you the chance to encounter the Manyeleti's wildlife at close quarters. Our afternoon/evening game drives allow you to experience the magical transition from day to night and light to dark - the perfect combination to create lasting memories.

It's all about being under canvas

Pungwe's tents offer simple elegant comfort, security, hot and cold running water for baths or showers and an exceptional feeling of immersion in the African bush. Under canvas you will not just hear but feel the sounds of the African night - the lion's distant roar, the haunting wail of a hyena, the throaty cough of a passing leopard and the call of the fiery necked nightjar celebrating the velvety darkness.

Situated in the southern part of the 22 000ha big five Manyeleti Game Reserve, Pungwe shares unfenced boundaries with two world-renowned reserves, the Sabi Sand Private Game Reserve to the south and the Kruger National Park to the east, allowing for free movement of wildlife between the three reserves. Located on a private concession, Pungwe's guests have the regular luxury of exclusive sightings in a remote wilderness.

It's all about people

Pungwe is proud of its links to the adjacent communities - all our wonderful staff are from the surrounding villages and are passionate about both the Manyeleti and Pungwe. Some of our staff have been here for over 20 years and their wealth of knowledge of the reserve uniquely equips them to give you the experience of a lifetime. The camp purchases most of its supplies and services from local businesses and our support of local children at the Pfukani Creche in Thorndale is an ongoing project very close to our hearts.
