Directions

If you are driving to Pungwe, please follow these directions to the letter and DO NOT use GPS or satellite navigation as these will invariably direct you on to roads that we absolutely do not recommend. Your safety is our priority, click here for a map.

By road from Johannesburg

From Johannesburg take the N12 and N4 towards Belfast. Exit the N4 at the Belfast intersection, enter the town and turn right at the second stop sign in the direction of Dullstroom (R540). Continue to Lyndenburg via Dullstrrom. In Lyndenburg turn left and take the R36 to Orighstad. Continue in the direction of Hoedspruit via the Abel Erasmus Pass and the JG Stijdom Tunnel. Shortly after crossing the Blyde River, turn right in the direction of Orpen (R531).

Continue past the Klaserie turn-off (R40) to the Orpen Gate signpost. Turn left at the Orpen Gate signpost and continue on this road (still R531), pass the South African Wildlife College on your left and continue on the tar road until you see the Orpen boom gate entrance to the Kruger National Park in front of you. Just before the boom gate you will see sign posts to the right for the Manyeleti Game Reserve and Pungwe Safari Camp. Turn right to the entrance of the Manyeleti Game Reserve. Proceed on for 200m to the Manyeleti entrance gate where the entrance fee is payable (card only, no cash). Once in the reserve stick to the main road and follow the Pungwe signs. Pungwe is about 30km from the gate where you entered.

By road from Nelspruit/Hazyview

Take the R40 heading northwards in the direction of Hoedspruit/Phalaborwa for approximately 70km and the turn right onto the R531 towards the Orpen Gate. Continue on the Open Road. You will eventually pass the South African Wildlife College on your left and continue on the tar road until you see the Orpen boom gate entrance to the Kruger National Park in front of you.

PLEASE DO NOT FOLLOW YOUR GPS DIRECTIONS FROM HAZYVIEW OR HOEDSPRUIT AS THEY WILL DIRECT TOWARDS ROADS THAT ARE INACCESSIBLE TO THE PUBLIC.

By air

There are direct flights daily from both O R Tambo International Airport in Johannesburg and Cape Town International Airport to Hoedspruit's Eastgate Airport. A transfer can be arranged from Eastgate Airport to Pungwe. Alternatively, you can hire a car at Eastgate Airport. Driving time from Eastgate Airport to Pungwe is approximately 90 minutes.

Another possibility is to fly to Kruger Mpumalanga International Airport (KMIA) in Nelspruit (Mbombela), either from Johannesburg or Cape Town. Road transfers from KMIA can be arranged but takes a good deal longer than from Eastgate (approximately three hours).
