The essence of wilderness

Pungwe Safari Camp has been operating on the same site for over 25 years, offering simple yet memorable safaris of real value to our guests. Our ethos is to deliver truly authentic safari experiences with limited impact on the wilderness around us. We believe that the essence of any safari is best captured in the sights, sounds and smell of the African bush and we endeavour to create an environment in which these elements take centre stage, allowing our guests to have life-altering experiences.

Location, location, location...

Pungwe is situated in the remote and undeveloped southern portion of the Manyeleti Reserve, on the northern border of the Sabi Sand Reserve and the western border of the Kruger National Park. We are fortunate to have unfenced boundaries with both of these iconic reserves, allowing for free movement of animals between the three reserves. The Manyeleti is renowned for its large concentrations of game and relatively low levels of development, guaranteeing exceptional game viewing with minimal vehicle densities.

Unfenced and unplugged

Pungwe is very much a part of the Manyeleti's wilderness, which means there are no fences to prevent animals moving through camp - which they do, frequently. One of only a handful of unfenced, tented safari camps in South Africa, guests immediately buy into the authenticity of the experience the camp offers. Completely off-grid, Pungwe has limited solar power, runs gas refrigerators and freezers and uses paraffin lanterns once the sun goes down. There is power for charging batteries, cellphones and laptops, and enough to run fans in each of our tents, but there is no wifi and cellphone signal is patchy, at best... All of which makes Pungwe the ideal retreat for a complete digital detox.
